Lakers v. Celtics 2010: Tale of the Terapeak

June 30, 2010

Well its been almost 2 weeks since game 7, but I’ve finally managed to pick up the pieces and now have “my life back.” Still I’m curious, which team won the vintage apparel playoffs. Lets go to Terapeak.

First I searched for “celtics” in the vintage clothing category (110), between the dates May 30-June 19:

Second I did the same for the term “Lakers”:

The top selling item is the LA Lakers “Celtics Busters” t-shirt which actually showed up in both searches since it contained both terms. I count this one in the Lakers column. Surprisingly during this time period there was not another item with both lakers and celtics in the listing title in this category.

Looks like the Lakers win here. Total sales of $1,111, 89 listings with a sell-through of 58%. Although if you check out the Celtics #’s they had a good showing too. Pretty close to the way the Finals played out.

Now lets check out a similar search in the “Sports Memorabilia>Fan Apparel & Collectibles” category:

First lets search “celtics vintage, -new”:

Next “lakers vintage -new -hate”  (to filter out all the “I HATE LA” stuff):

In this category the Celtics really get stepped on. Lakers total sales of $3,104 vs Celtics $1,846. Though the number of listings and sell through aren’t very far apart, the real disparity becomes apparent in the average sale price: Lakers$25.03 vs Celtics $19.23. But why the big difference? Answer: Team Jerseys. Everyone wants to be like Magic, Kobe, & co. Just like in the game, the Lakers’ star power makes them a winner on eBay. Look at the huge difference in sell through and total sales below:

Everyone knows that the best vintage is “SATAN VINTAGE”
